A village in the heart of the Sahara Desert, that's home to an extended family of Tuareg Nomads who've settled in order to educate their children.
With our support, they've built three new classrooms (one semi-premanent sandbrick building & 2 straw class-rooms). We have funded employment of 2 additional teachers .Since Sept 2009, 100 of the 150 village children have been able to attend school. We are now fund-raising for additional teachers, to upgrade the straw rooms to brick class-rooms & to provide meals for the chldren during school hours.
We are also fund-raising to provide a constant, safe supply of water. The only well available at present is about a mile from the village, 115m deep, supplying dirty water, unft for human consumption. Devastatingly, 3 yrs work on a new traditional well had to be abandoned when a faulty soil layer was encountered at 100m. To ensure a constant supply of clean water, a new small-bore very deep well needs to be installed, at least 200-300m deep. This would also supply neighbouring communities
All donations will be hugely appreciated!
