URGENT! updated ,26th December 2012. Armed Conflict in North Mali from 17th January 2012, political instability, with the declaration of Independence of North Mali and the subsquent violent imposition of Sharia Law in the North, has caused huge exodus of Tuareg & other ethnic groups from their homes in Mali. They have fled either into the desert, to relatives in other areas of Mali, or to neighbouring countries. UNHCR / Red Cross currently estimate ~ 430,000 affected.
Many living in Northern Mali were already suffering from food shortage/ hunger/drought, and have now fled to areas , eg in Mauritania and to Western Niger, where resources are already stretched and there is incipient famine. Please see links above for information. Donations urgently needed!! Please share what you can, even a little can do a lot!
